Why did I start taping my mouth at night?

Dlaczego zaczęłam zaklejać usta na noc?

Why I Started Taping My Mouth at Night?

I'm not your typical "wellness girl." I grew up with a completely different approach.

I was a professional basketball player in the Polish premier league—two training sessions a day, two matches a week. For years, no one talked about sleep, recovery, or hormones. The motto was: work hard, play harder.

Waking up at 5 AM for practice? Sure. Gym at 11 PM and waking up at 6 AM for work? Also fine. 5–7 flights a week just to jet off somewhere for the weekend? Why not. Parties instead of recovery? Of course.

And honestly—it worked. Or at least… it seemed to. For a while.

Until it didn't

At some point, something changed—maybe age, maybe overwork.
Headaches. Brain fog. Lack of focus. Lack of energy. And the worst part—I had no idea what was happening.

On paper, everything looked "good." I had a great job, I was active, I was doing everything right. Yet something was off.

The "aha" moment: sleep

Then I bought an Oura ring. That was the first time I saw where the main problem was—sleep.

– some nights 5 hours, others 12
– almost zero deep sleep
– terrible recovery, constant waking up at night

And that's when a new obsession kicked in—sleep optimization.

My "grind mentality" simply changed direction. The same energy, just a different focus. I started reading everything: biohacking, sleep research, podcasts. And everywhere, one conclusion emerged—sleep is fundamental.

So I went all in—dark bedroom, low temperature, no eating before bed, supplements, routine.

And it worked. I felt better. Much better.

Despite all of that, I still woke up several times a night. I didn't always remember it (but Oura did). I still had brain fog in the mornings. It was still hard for me to wake up before the alarm.

It was better—but it wasn't good.

What really changed everything

Then I stumbled upon the topic of breathing.

I read James Nestor's "Breath" and started listening to Andrew Huberman. And they both talked about one thing: nasal breathing at night and mouth taping.

I thought: "Okay… sounds a bit strange, but fine—I'll try it."

I ordered some random tapes from Amazon.

First night? They fell off or I removed them.
Second? Same thing.

Finally, I managed to keep them on all night.

And after 2–3 nights… something changed. I stopped waking up in the middle of the night. Just like that.

A few days later, I had energy again. I started waking up before the alarm. Falling asleep became almost automatic.

The problem: the products were terrible

The effect was there. But the product? A tragedy and a frustration.

Some were too weak—they fell off every night. Others were too strong—they literally tore my skin. Others irritated me. Still others looked like medical plasters and were totally uncomfortable.

I tested everything—various brands, tapes from the USA, "recommended" products. Over 100 different patches, from all over the world. Cheap, expensive, made of different materials, shapes, colors.

Every time, the same thing.

My business mindset said: good idea, bad execution.

That's why Bedrock was created

But the effect was undeniable. My Oura scores jumped to 85–90+.

The biggest differences:

– no waking up at night
– longer REM
– faster falling asleep (it became a ritual)
– waking up before the alarm, naturally

For the first time in years, my sleep was… stable.

And that's when the idea for Bedrock was born.

Not because I "wanted to create my own brand." Only because I couldn't find a product that worked 100%.

All of them had the same problems: bad shape, inflexible, giving a feeling of claustrophobia, glue too strong or too weak, not hypoallergenic, no hole (which was honestly a bit stressful), they looked medical and… ugly.

And that last one matters more than you'd think. If I'm sleeping in silk pajamas, in bed, next to my partner… do I really want something clinical on my face?

So I started creating something I wanted to use myself.

Something that works, is comfortable, looks good, and doesn't make you feel like a patient.

So we created one that makes sense.

– Shaped like lips—to adapt, not fight with your face
– Flexible—works with you while you sleep
– Made of silk fibers—soft, breathable, non-irritating
– Hypoallergenic—zero reactions, zero problems
– With a hole in the middle—so there's never a feeling of claustrophobia
– And yes… the design and colors are HOT, they don't look like something medical in bed

And yes… I no longer sleep without patches

Not because I "have to." Only because I know the difference.

If you're in the place I was—doing everything right, but still waking up tired—maybe it's not about doing more. Maybe one small thing is missing.

From my experience—it's worth trying. The results are truly WOW.

P.S. My partner no longer sleeps without Bedrock patches. And an added bonus—he stopped snoring.
